The beach and a plaque nearby honour the accomplishment of Steve Fonyo, a Hungarian Canadian runner who ran across Canada in 1985. Following in Terry Fox’s footsteps, Fonyo raised funds and awareness for cancer research. As a survivor of cancer himself, Fonyo raised $14 million for the cause.
