Erected in 2007 and created by László Józsa, the gate symbolizes the gratitude of students and teachers from the Sopron Forestry College who were welcomed in Canada after the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956. The University of British Columbia enabled them to finish their studies and become valuable members of Canadian society and contributed to the development of the forestry sector in British Columbia in a significative way.
